5 Winning Strategies to Stay on Track for the Big Game

Feb 4, 2016

This weekend, the biggest football game of the year will be watched by millions of fans. It’s often celebrated with lively, food-centric parties and gatherings. Since many of us have made New Year’s resolutions to get fit and healthy, the last thing we want to do is derail our progress.

We asked ZEN BODI™ Brand Ambassador Mark Macdonald to give us some pointers on how to stay on plan while still enjoying the festivities. Many of these tips come from Zen Project 8, an 8-week program that simplifies weight management and teaches habits for leading a healthy lifestyle.

Here are 5 winning strategies to help keep you on track during the big game!

  1. Don’t Go Hungry

If you’re heading out to a friend’s house or a sports bar, drinking a protein shake before you go will help you feel satisfied, give you a good balance of protein, fats and carbs, and keep you on plan. Be sure to pack a ZEN BODI shake to go, so you have options. When you aren’t hungry, you make better food choices and don’t overindulge.

  2. Eat Fresh Fruits & Veggies

Where there’s a sporting event, there’s always unhealthy food. Instead of reaching for the calorie-laden chips and dip, try eating lighter with fresh fruits and vegetables. Nibble on a veggie tray or prepare a delicious green or fruit salad.

  3. Don’t Drink Your Calories

Calories in soda, juice and alcoholic beverages add up quickly. Try sticking to light beer or wine, or introduce some infused waters to your festivities. There are countless recipes online or you can experiment with your own favorite fruits for a one-of-a-kind beverage. Remember, if you’re going to drink alcohol, try to avoid eating carbs.

  4. Get Active!

Don’t just be a spectator…get up and get moving! If you’re planning for a later afternoon or evening gathering, try to hit the gym earlier in the day, create your own friendly competition of touch football, or go for a brisk walk/run. Any activity will help burn calories and make your day more enjoyable.

  5. Be Prepared

If you’ll be attending a party, ask the host if you can bring a healthy side dish or beverage to share. Be sure to bring your MRFK (Mobile Readiness Food Kit), and pack some healthy foods like nuts, protein bars and a ZEN BODI shake. This way, you know there will be food options for you to eat and enjoy, and others will benefit too!

By following these 5 winning strategies, you’ll be able to stay on plan and enjoy game day without regret. If you do go off plan, pick right back up where you left off. If you indulge, indulge in moderation! Have fun and remember…progress over perfection.

Go team, go!
